Fragments and Icons

These pieces are always available in a variety of sizes.Each piece is unique because it is constructed from two patchworks of fabric laid one over the other and there are infinite possibilities in the combination of colours and layers. The closely related colours "sing" against one another creating a vibrant, glowing effect. The fabrics in the upper layer act as "glazes" against the sumptuous silks beneath. The pieces are handbeaded and in the case of the icons are handstitched onto the box canvas.

Texts are generally chosen from the King James Bible for their rich language. They always relate to the image depicted.Short phrases are repeated in a mantra like fashion to provide a backdrop for the embroidery.

Fragments are framed. Icons are hand sewn onto a box canvas.The canvases are hand painted by me in acrylic and gold leaf to give a rich distressed finsh.

Heart Fragments and Icons.
Hearts are an enduring symbol and are popular all year round as well as for special occasions, wedding and anniverary gifts, ruby wedding tokens, general expressions of love and ,of course, Valentines Day.

The texts in my work always relate to the subject matter. Some of my favourites for these pieces come from The Song of Solomon.......
"I sleep but my heart waketh...."
"Thou hast ravished my heart......."
