My Pictures

I offer my work ready to hang in two finished formats: Framed in a solid wood frame or handsewn onto a box canvas. The box canvases are painted by me using acrylic and gold leaf to create a distressed finish.

The frames in which I present my work are a wide flat plain rustic pine. They usually have an "antique pine" finish but can be stained to a dark "jacobean oak" if preferred. I like these frames as do many of my customers. I chose them for their slightly "rough hewn" simple finish. Sometimes the grain is quite pronounced and they may have knot markings too. My frames do not have non-reflective glass.

Framing is very much a matter of personal taste. I keep my frames uniform so that my work looks well when multiple pieces are hung together. I buy my frames in bulk so that the purchase price of my pieces is only inflated by a small element for framing. If you like a framed piece but would prefer to purchase it unframed so that you can source your own frame to harmonise with your home this is no problem.
Purchasing a piece unframed results in a slight reduction in the purchase price (for large pieces this reduction would be approximately £15)

Many customers feel that textiles should not be placed behind glass and certainly the box canvases exploit the fabulous textures of the fabrics and the glitter of the metallic threads and beads. These pieces have a more contemporary look . All pieces on box canvas are treated woth a fabric protector and can be dusted with a feather duster.

My pieces contain a high proportion of silk therefore they should not be hung in direct sunlight, this is just the same if you purchase a watercolour painting. It is not advisable to hang textile work near to a direct heat source nor in a humid atmosphere. When you hang your piece try to ensure there is an artificial light source nearby, e.g. a reading lamp or similar as this will exploit the true beauty of the vibrant silks and reflective surfaces and will bring picture to life.
